School Arts Support Initiative

SASI students with art works

SASI (2007-) worked to develop sustainable arts education programming at nine NYC middle schools.

SASI program components included:

- Rich and multi-faced arts instruction for all students;

- School coaches to provide school-specific support;

- Professional development opportunities;

- External evaluators tracking qualitative and quantitative data; and

- Dissemination of findings at conferences and in reports.

Outcomes included:

- Positive effects on the artistic, academic, and psychological well-being of middle school students.

- School commitment to structural, curricular, and pedagogical policies as they pertain to arts in schools.
